Dennis Kucinich YouTube Video Plays Hot Wife Card

(or, My Tribute (Ok, Shrine) To Elizabeth Kucinich)
Okay, a video popped up on YouTube this morning which will undoubtedly be Dennis Kucinich's YouChoose Spotlight video. Previously I've talked about Obama rocking the whole net thing and Ron Paul finding a disproportionate amount of success online because his ideology is so niche. But really, Dennis Kucinich is the undeniable online campaign PRO. In this latest video, I haven't a clue what he is saying. Why? because I'm too busy staring at his smokin' wife that he has strategically standing over his shoulder. Check it out:

So now that we got the hard-biting politics out of the way, let's get to the goods. Elizabeth Harper Kucinich is hot. She's 6 feet tall, which is a foot taller than Dennis. She has red hair. She's British. She's 28 years old, which is over 30 years younger than Dennis. Did I mention she's hot? I'm adding her to my myspace friends as we speak. (You can too at HERE.) What really sells me is that she's clearly a little nuts. She talks about karma a whole lot. She's got the tribal music going on her MySpace page. According to Wikipedia, she quoted Kama Sutra at their wedding ceremony. Folks, this chick is awesome. If Elizabeth Kucinich gets in the spotlight, she could easily land Dennis the much coveted dude-vote. This is easy logic, if Dennis Kucinich can get a girl like that on his team, than he can certainly bring the EU around.

And more on Dennis Kucinich.

ELECTION: The Video Game!

The game is called "Hillary Clinton vs. Rudy Giuliani 2008." Remember Highgrow? Ya, it's a little like that, but instead of cultivating pot, it's presidential candidates. First, pick a side: Clinton or Giuliani. Next, hit the campaign trail. Finally, take the White House. It's supposed to be a race between the frontrunners, but unfortunately for the developers Barack Obama has caught up so significantly in the polls that it could be a matter of weeks before version 2.0 comes out. Anyway, the game sells for on eBay for about $10 by Gameworthy. CLICK HERE to see it on eBay. You can see a video demo of the game on YouTube right here:

Survey Says Obama Won Debate

Mr. Obama emerged a clear winner in last nights 8-way Democratic candidate debate for President. According to a SurveyUSA poll he garnered 31% of the viewers, with Clinton at 24% and Edwards with 14%.

As for a few specific notes: Obama did 3x better than Clinton and 2x as well as Edwards among South Carolina's Independents. Obama and Clinton tied among Democrats. Edwards and Obama tied among Republicans. And Clinton won among white viewers. Read more on this survey here.

Democratic Debate in South Carolina for 2008

In what looks to be the longest campaigning season ever recorded, today the Democrats’s took one step closer toward their siege of the White House. At South Carolina State University, Eight Democratic presidential hopefuls convened for a debate that turned out less to be platform on distinguishing themselves from the rest of the pack and more about their shared bashing of the lame-duck-to-be, current President of the United States of America, George Walker Bush. The debate, which pre-dates the kickoff Iowa caucuses by about nine months, was 90 minutes long and without an opening or closing statement.

Debaters were limited to 60 second answers and the quick fire structure led to a rather fast paced, sound bite friendly affair. The questions ranged from topics such as -‘what would you do the first day in office?’ to ‘By a show of hands, how many of you have had a gun in your household as an adult’ to ‘Name one memorable mistake you have made in office.’ At times it felt more like a dating show than a political platform, as personalities and pre-recorded speeches came out - and each candidate attempted to leave their impression on we the people. Heck, they even touched on grooming, with John Edwards and his questionable hair cuts!

The overriding theme of the debate remained the deep running opposition to the war in Iraq. Questions about international policy in other regions in the world were peppered at the panel of contestants, but the focus and interest was primarily on the quagmire at hand, our exit plan or lack there of. With GOP out of the picture (for one night) all thought process was on the shared ideas of troop withdrawal.

Barack Obama stated, “I am proud that I opposed this war from the start.” (a thinly veiled jab at his peers on stage that did vote to authorize the invasion)

Hillary Clinton pledged, “If this president does not get us out of Iraq, when I am president, I will.” (Clinton = recipient of Obama’s thinly veiled jab)

John Edwards also joined the verbal bar fight as he told Clinton that she and everyone else that voted to authorize the war should “search their conscience.” (Oddly enough, Edwards also did vote for the invasion, but he has since apologized…so, um…I guess that means he’s absolved of the issue?)

“The president has a fundamentally flawed policy” said Joe Biden and according to Chris Dodd, Bush was pursuing a “failed policy”

Dennis Kucinich also threw a left hook out there as he pontificated that it made no sense to oppose the war then turn around and vote for more money as many of them did.

Alas, the debate ended with as much flare as it began. Which is to say…not much flare. Noticeable absent from the hour and a half of positioning and posturing was conflict, as most candidates were extremely respectful and articulate in their points of view. Inherently and obviously, there was much parity to the many opinions of the group relative to the Dem’s Right leaning opponents. And overall, the evening was mostly entertaining – in a pseudo, quasi kind of way. The kind of entertainment you get from watching a ‘high speed’ police car chase in Los Angeles – time consuming, semi-interesting with the potential of mayhem…yet, the car usually just cruises down the street going 30 mph until the drive finally decides he’s wasted enough time, and gives up out of futility – pulling over to merely get cuffed in an obscenely anticlimactic fashion.

So, ultimately, this was the OJ-chase-scene of debates, but in the end, that’s okay. We were hooked in by the speeches and will remain generally excited by all the contestants, I mean candidates. No fireworks today. But fear not, we may be many moons away from the caucuses but its draws near and will be here before we know it. Sit tight, stay tuned…this race will be as entertaining as can be…or at the very least it will be memorable - in our inaugural new-media-youtube-age-election. And WE THE (2.0) PEOPLE will be watching, judging and eventually...voting.

John McCain In The YouTube YouChoose Spotlight

John McCain wants to know what issues the YouTube community believes are not getting enough "straight talk." Naturally, I asked McCain about illegal immigration:
Senator, thank you for giving us this opportunity to participate. As a resident of California, it's obvious that on campaign trails local and national, "immigration" is almost a dirty word. I would love to hear your thoughts on the current state of illegal imigration and what reforms you might propose. Specifically, what are your thoughts on the relationship between illegal immigration and nationality security as well as the economy? Again, thank you.

Here's his video:

John McCain Still Mr. Funny Man

John McCain appeared on Good Morning America on ABC this morning where they discussed how his recent foibles are making big waves on YouTube. He is then shown footage of John Murtha condemning John McCain's choice of words, to which McCain says he'll continue to use humor. I appreciate his sticking to his guns, but McCain isn't funny. Nor do people want him to be funny. Again, this whole Funny-Man-McCain angle is going to lose him any chance in hell at the nomination.

John Edwards: What Do You Wanna Do? I Dunno, What Do You Wanna Do?

Don't start that again! Well, if there's anything that John Edwards and Mitt Romney have in common, it's a complete inability to turn off the rhetoric, even for a webcam. It's 2007. It's Web 2.0. It's YouTube, baby! We all see through this. We all know what's what. Are you telling me I just waited a week for John Edwards to respond to the YouTube community and all I got was this:

-Universal health care
-Change the world, you know, so that they start respecting America
-Get out of Iraq
-Deal with poverty
-Address global warming
-I dunno, what are you gonna do?

So there. I saved you the trouble. I watched the clip so you don't have to. And you know who the big winner is in all this? At the risk of sounding redundant, Barack Obama. Why? Because when it's his turn, he's gonna get all up there in the YouTube YouChoose Spotlight and talk about emotions and maybe sing a song and he's probably not gonna state a single issue position, but he'll have the common sense to avoid the cliches. He'll stay focused on the young savvy people. He'll make em feel like he's speaking with em directly. And not for nothing, that's exactly what will garner votes.

Anyway, in case you're still interested, future serial lecturer: John Edwards

Presidential Debates: Coming To A YouTube Near You?

These days, just broadcasting presidential debates on television is not enough. As a generation we demand everything! And clearly need our presidential debates on demand when we want it, from the comfort of our home PC, in the crisp low-res glory that is YouTube. As of now, DNC and RNC distribution protocol of debates would forbid taking presidential debates viral because the debates are owned outright by the networks that air them so posting on YouTube would be copyright infringement. However, Stanford Law professor Lawrence Lessig is down to fight the power. He recently wrote letters to the DNC and RNC emploring them to reconsider this policy. His story was covered today by CNET:
You should also be able to upload it, YouTube it, share it, splice it, and 'remix' it online.

Visit Lawrence Lessig HERE to see the actual letters sent to the DNC and RNC.

And, Read the CNET Article: A Call For Broad Distribution Of Presidential Debate Video

Presidential Candidates To Debate Via Internet!

The Huffington Post and Web magazine Slate will engineer two presidential debates conducted online -- apparently the first of their kind -- that will feature candidates participating from separate locations with a real-time connection to voters via the Internet. Charlie Rose has signed on to moderate the debates, and invitations have gone out to the announced candidates in both parties. The 90-minute online debates will be remarkable in that they will be the first in the history of presidential politics where the candidates and the moderator won't be in the same room -- or even the same state. (Hollywood Reporter)

John McCain Is The New Howard Dean

Just in case it isn't already obvious, I'm gonna state for the record that there is NO WAY John McCain gets the Republican Nomination. Firstly, it's unlikely a coincidence that in the weekly polls following "bomb-Iran-gate" McCain stumbled 4% [Rasmussen Reports]. Second, footage just showed up on YouTube that seems to show McCain opting for a repeat performance of bad taste on The Daily Show last night. In his TV appearance McCain talks about putting an IED under Jon Stewart's desk and kicking the show's security dog. Now, the clip is a whopping 22 seconds short and begins with McCain seemingly mid sentence responding to a question not shown in the clip. Now I didn't see The Daily Show last night, but this clip is clearly cut short to prompt us to take it out of context. This is why I'm comparing McCain's demise to that of Howard Dean. McCain has forged a destructive paradigm of being loose-lipped in an age when it's all too easy to be represented out of context. What McCain actually said and actually meant cease to matter. All that matters is that I can watch McCain singing the Beach Boys and talking about kicking a dog named Chloe on YouTube until the end of time.

So, one must ask, "But wait, isn't Giuliani all over YouTube in a dress and pointy bra?" Well ya, he is. But I really think expectation is everything. It is so rooted in that back of American minds that politicians are dishonest and fickle that we favor even the most superficial consistency and predictability. Giuliani is and always has been a quirky one. Multiple marriages, mistress in the mansion, pro-choice, estranged kid-- wearing a dress at a benefit is par for the course. But John McCain doing shtick? Funny man John McCain? John I-lived-in-a-cage-but-now-crack-bad-jokes McCain? It just doesn't jive. It makes people uneasy. If George W. Bush can be summed up in one word, it'd be "predictable." No doubt. Too much of John McCain not being John McCain spells big trouble.

Myspace, Mark Burnett To Find Next Great Politician With Reality Project

It's called "Independent." Variety is reporting that together Myspace and Mark Burnett are assembling what will begin as an online project and result in a TV show to find the next "Political Idol," of you will. The project will be formulated to take advantage of MySpace's ability to act as a virtual and interactive town hall. And Naturally, there will be a cash prize of $1,000,000. I believe this is a majorly important step in illustrating precisely how efficient and effective the Internet can be in the world of politics. The web is proving more and more to be a true cross-section of interested individuals and less and less as a haven for the disenfranchised. And in today's society, nothing spells legitamacy like reality TV!

HAL 9000: Bill Clinton For First Gentleman

New viral video ad on YouTube. It's the second from clintonforfirstgentleman.org and plays on that HAL 9000 commercial by mac. Their first video has only had 423 views in its first month. They clearly have an insteresting angle for supporting Hillary Clinton so I'm curious to see if taking a geekier approach gets more views. Their last video was sorta blah. This one is certainly cooler.

[Clinton For First Gentleman]

Obama Beckons Black Clinton Supporters

Mr. Obama's momentum courts the ethnic pride of many black Americans - which puts Clinton supporters in a precarious position as they decide who to support moving forward. Where will the prominent Black leaders end up? How long will the vacillating last? Clinton 1 enjoyed great support from the Black and Hispanic population and Clinton 2 also looks to connect to this voter, but will the fence riders fall to her side of the playground? Far from over, this will take months to shake out, but we'll be watching closely. Dare I say it, for fear of Imus-like reprisal, in the coming months black voters will be doing a lot of soul searching. NYTimes.com

BREAKING NEWS: Al Gore Running For President?

Rumors have just hit the web of Democratic Vice President Al Gore possibly running for president. In the wake of his Academy Award winning documentry AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH and in the midst of Barrack Obama's experience being questioned, have the stars aligned for the return of Al Gore on the campaign trail? Could he be what the Democrats are missing? Between his veteran experience, Internet savvy, and green policy positions, he might just be the man to get us out of Iraq, reduce our dependency on foreign oil and rally the Internet generation.

Sources say that preliminary steps are in motion and Gore's team is on standby for the possibility of Gore's second presidential bid. More as it develops.

Mr. Popularity - In The Age Of Social Networking, Does Policy Fall By The Wayside?

Barack Obama has proven himself in the fundraising department. He's an absolute phenomenon in the Internet support department. But when push comes to shove, how will these successes stack up against his lack of experience and more importantly, his lack of policy?

With so much policy-making and issue-positioning behind Hillary Clinton, she remains a landslide ahead in the Gallup polls. But what does this mean in an age when droves of voting-age supporters out of Gallup's reach rally 'round a fresh face like Obama?

This week's Economist asserts that the burden is on Obama to pass the policy test over the next few weeks, to make up for his lack of experience if he wants to stay alive in the primary. "[Obama] was an angst-ridden schoolboy in Hawaii when Mrs Clinton was getting her first taste of Washington during the Watergate affair," says The Economist (4/14/2007). And since then, with only two years of Capitol Hill experience under his belt, he's proven a far greater orator than policy-maker. From Obama's congressional records, it seems fairly obvious that he is yet to sponsor a single bit of significant, nationally relevant legislation. Obama's issue positions (directly from his website) read as paint-by-numbers. We've heard them all before from countless other candidates. And like so many others, he fails to address key topical issues entirely, such as immigration. That said, it could very well turn out that with the right affect in the eyes of young, net-savvy voters, this might be more than enough to find success in this new age of politics. Hillary Clinton doesn't even have a section of bulleted issue positions on her campaign website. In fact, you must track down her senate website to see such a thing. So the big questions are, what counts and who matters?

In the past 8 days, Obama's MySpace friends have increased in number by 24.74%. Clinton's have jumped 23.98%. Despite this comparable leap, Obama support on MySpace outnumbers Clinton support by nearly 10 to 1. With all the math that goes into Gallup polls, the fact remains that they are samplings of less than 500 individuals (Gallup). Despite it being far too soon to hypothesize a correlation between browsing behavior and voting behavior, you cannot discount the willingness of hundreds of thousands of voting-aged individuals to show their support for candidates on social networking websites. One must question this discrepancy between Gallup and dare I say, MySpace. If policy will emerge as a make-it or break-it point for Obama over the next few weeks, one must assume based on shear numbers that it will be evident amongst the likes of YouTube and MySpace. And if it's not evident, this could begin to drive home the realization of the old axiom, "there's not a dimes worth of difference" - bringing the presidential bid one step closer to the prettiest boy in the running, Mr. popularity himself, Barack Obama.

John McCain Knocks Off Ocean's 13, Teases candidacy Announcement

John McCain has just released a very cinematic "teaser trailer" for his scheduled April 25th announcement for presidential Candidacy. The video is a clear Ocean's 13 knock off, stylized in a clear attempt to cater to young voters and convey a hip image. Um, it's McCain! He's really good at being old and drab and opinionated. Shouldn't he stick to that? How could he expect such a bright, savvy generation of young people to fall for this? While the words coming out of McCain's mouth are clearly a truthful portrayal of what he stands for, I can't help but think the stylized silliness will cause young people to tune out. Anything presented in such a dishonest fashion will go in one ear and out the other, underlying message and all.

Mitt Romney Responds To YouTube Community

I would venture to guess that this may be the first time ever that voters have been able to carry on public discourse with a presidential candidate from the comfort of the home PC.

Mitt Romney has just posted three responses to YouTube users this morning. Firstly, and rightfully so, Romney addressed the flack he received from the YouTube community for asking US what WE believe is America's greatest challenge. No shortage of users immediately chimed in with, "No, Mr. Romney, what do YOU believe?" or equivalent. Well, Romney stepped up and answered that question himself. He places the spread of radical jihad at the top of his list of challenges. Following in importance is staying competitive with rising Asian economic markets. Then, working to preserve the family unit. See the video here:

Next Romney calls for a stronger military with more troops, more spending and SDI. In addition he wants to bolster health care and finance on the military front. Oh, and he wants to lower taxes. Check it out:

Finally, Romney responds to YouTube Guru James Kotecki's question about Tom Friedman's THE WORLD IS FLAT. Romney speaks out firmly against the isolationist backlash to our presence in Iraq, saying we must stay globally competitive to allow ourselves the greatest opportunities at home. Watch:

More Viral Influence and Motivation for Involvement: YouTube To Split Revenues With Users

YouTube plans on taking an important step toward integrating advertising by sharing revenue with people who post videos. Content creators who upload their videos to their site will be offered the option of having short ads shown at the beginning or end, with the resulting revenues split 50-50 (as long as they own the rights to the video). This new level of ownership and distribution of content, will be key to driving the quality and demand for video posting up in this new revolution. Kinda cool...

If there's any contender to lose out from bite-sized media, it's Hillary. With all her baggage, she's such an easy mark. Too easy. Viral video simply has no filter for cheap shots.
